Although the rural house insurance is a Government scheme managed by Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan, however, due to limitation in sum insured as compared to the market value of the property, there may be a need to enhance the coverage, which can be provided under the BIL Rural Fire Insurance (Enhancement) scheme.
Coverage:
- Only rural houses
- Damages by an accidental fire
- Damage caused by the earthquake
- Damages from flood, landslides, river or rainfall
- Damages, caused by wind storms, hail storms, or lightning
- Impact damage caused by animals, falling trees, rock slides, or vehicles.
- Only one house per individual. One-House-One-Insurance policy
- Newly constructed houses shall be allowed to subscribe to the scheme twice a year. However, the insured shall pay the individual’s share of the premium in full.
Exclusion:
- Fire damages if proven intentional
- Public and private Lhakhangs, Dubkhags, Guest House, etc
- Losses from war, nuclear risks, malicious damage, riot, or terrorism
- Houses unoccupied for more than six months ineligible for Rural House Insurance in the succeeding year
